The title “Moving On “perfectly sums up the new aspirations of Jacky Terrasson. After being the muse of major labels, it is a new adventure as an artist-producer and a new path that Jacky has decided to begin by creating his own record label, Earth-Sounds. It is also, after thirty years spent in New York City, his choice to live in France, the country where he grew up—but also continue to play regularly on the American continent, a subtle treasure hunt between leaving and returning to the two countries of his dual nationality. It also means offering two trio recording sessions (in Pompignan, France and New York City) for the same record with numerous guests.

Pianist and composer Andy Milne presents “Time Will Tell,” a new album recorded with his trio Unison. Milne’s latest collaboration with bassist John Hebert and drummer Clarence Penn is a sparkling exploration of identity and destiny. As with its predecessor, the new disc is Milne’s response to life-changing circumstances, this time chronicling his lifelong efforts to uncover his birth family history. Adopted as an infant, his efforts to connect with his birth family proved fruitless—until 2018 when the gift of an Andestry.com DNA test from his wife changed everything. A DNA match led to a first cousin, and the profound mysteries of his biological family began to rapidly reveal themselves.

Also this week, acclaimed vocalist Lizz Wright encapsulates an illustrious 20-year career with “Shadow,” the studio debut on her new Blues & Greens Records label; pianist Brandon Goldberg and his trio were recorded live at Dizzy’s Club in NYC for his third release as a leader, “Live at Dizzy’s”; and trombonist Altin Sencalar strikes a harmonious chord with “Discover the Present,” a vibrant blend of tradition and innovation with an all-star band showcasing Sencalar’s unparalleled talents and tasteful, well-crafted musicality.
