Craig Kessler takes another listen to Paul Bley’s short-lived jazz label, IAI (Improvising Artists Incorporated), founded in 1974 to record improvised music and video art. We’ll hear some fascinating obscurities from Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley, Jaco Pastorious, and many others.

Jimmy Giuffre, Part 1 

Craig plays early selections from master musician Jimmy Giuffre. We’ll hear arrangements and compositions that Jimmy did for Woody Herman, as well as some great work with “West Coast jazz” mainstays Shorty Rogers, Pete Rugolo, Howard Rumsey, Teddy Charles, and Chet Baker, plus some of his mid-50s pioneering trios under his own leadership.
