Iowa Jazz Composers OrchestraUniversity of Northern Iowa Professor and award-winning jazz composer Mike Conrad leads this big band which exclusively performs original jazz music by Iowa writers. Conrad and the Iowa Jazz Composers Orchestra want to show people in Iowa and beyond that they “don’t need to look to New York City or Chicago for beautiful, high-quality, creative music. There are amazing artists and musicians doing incredible things right here.” The band’s repertoire includes works by Christopher Merz, John Rapson, Bob Washut, and Conrad himself, whose “Fertile Soil Suite” recently won ASCAP’s Sonic award
The Ana Koch Quartet
Ana Koch is a City High grad whose major in Nursing at the University of Iowa isn’t stopping her from continuing to study and perform as a jazz guitarist and singer. Joining her will be Marvin Truong, sax; Bennet Walker, bass; and Peter Stoltz, drums.
