Culture Crawl 505 “Of Space, Radio, and Silk Moths”

Michael Collins is the son of Collins Radio founder Arthur Collins, and a vice-president of the Arthur A. Collins Legacy Association, an organization devoted to preserving the history of Collins and the company he founded, now known as Collins Aerospace.

Michael will give a talk entitled “Arthur A. Collins: A Personal Retrospective,” at the Marion Heritage Center, on Oct. 10. 7pm, with a social hour beginning at 6pm.

Michael retells some of the most famous stories about his dad, including how he became famous as a teenager, maintaining radio contact with a ship exploring the Arctic, when even the U.S. Navy was unable to do so. You’ll also learn the link between wild silk moths and the German aeronautical engineer who has a Cedar Rapids street named for him.

The Marion Heritage Center is at 590 10th St. Information at www.MarionHistoricalSociety.org. Learn more about the Arthur A. Collins Legacy Association at www.arthurcollins.org.
