The Iowa Dance Festival happens across two weekends this year. It opens April 28 & 29 at Filmscene in Iowa City, with the Iowa International Screendance Festival. Keynote speaker Marta Renzi will lead a discussion of the films that will be presented. Screendance brings the audience up and close and personal with the dancers, as the camera gets closer, and can transport us to locations not possible in an auditorium.
The Iowa Dance Festival itself takes place at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Special guest performers will be Nimbus Dance Works, featuring Iowa City native Hannah Weeks. Master classes will include work with the Nimbus troupe, as well as “Circus Hooping,” with Lindsay Moon, who will light her Hula Hoops on fire at the concert that night. In addition to dance, the concert will feature live music, from the Preucil school, Bo Ramsey, and more.
