Eddie Piccard brings a New Orleans-themed show to KCCK’s final Jazz Under the Stars show on Thursday, August 24. A perennial Eastern Iowa favorite, Eddie Piccard grew up in eastern Iowa, and began playing music on his grandmother’s piano. As a young man, he performed in Chicago, Florida and on the west coast. He returned home to Iowa in the 1980s and in the years since has become a literal jazz icon in our community. Many music fans remember fondly the jazz club Eddie and his wife Dallis opened on Mount Vernon Road in the 1990s. Bringing an added dimension to Eddie’s quartet are the Busch Brothers Horns from Wisconsin, where they have toured with some of music’s legendary big bands, as well as their own Dixieland, Funk, and Ska groups.
Opening the show will be Nexus Brass, an all-woman brass quintet from the University of Iowa. More info on Jazz Under the Stars at www.kcck.org/juts.
