Gems of Hope was created by the families of Cedar Rapids women in cancer treatment, who noticed that many people arrived for their appointments without family or friends to support them.
Gems of Hope co-founder Beth Hammell and Executive Director Sarah McCaffery say that today the organization offers handmade gifts or tokens to cancer patients and offer other areas of support, particular for young people affected by a parent or family member dealing with cancer.
