The KCCK Feature Album for September is “Trios” from Buddy Rich. This collection of rare recordings captures the legendary drummer’s intimate three-man interludes he performed within his big band concerts. Although these jazz sessions were staples during many of his shows, there has never been a recording released of them until now. Taped during a series of shows around the world in 1976 and ’77, they feature bassists Jon Burr and Tom Warrington and the young piano prodigy Barry Kiener, and are marked by stunning solos by Rich using only his brushes. “Trios” is from Lightyear Records.
