Tim Hankewich is back and with him for his culture crawl debut is Orchestra Iowa’s new CEO, Eric Marshall. The orchestra’s second Masterwork of the season was inspired by cellist Philip Bergman and the music of Tan Dun’s Crouching Tiger Cencerto for Cello & Orchestra. If you’re familiar with the martial arts film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, then this will be a Masterwork you will want to attend. Western and Eastern music shake hands on this one with programing including the work of Béla Bartók, Mussorgsky and Ravel.
Masterworks II, “A Tale of Two Cultures” will have performances Saturday 10/5, 7:30pm at Paramount Theatre with insights at 6:45pm in the Encore Lounge & Sunday 10/6, 2pm at Coralville Center for Performing Arts with insights at 1pm at West Music (across the street).
Tickets can be purchased at artsiowa.com and orchestraiowa.org.
