All-star Colombian ensemble Ondatrópica return with a new single featuring a cover of Fela Kuti’s 1971 classic ‘Chop ‘n’ Quench’ and two remixes. ‘Chop ‘n’ Quench’ was recorded during the original recording process at Colombia’s famed Discos Fuentes studio early last year.
A project originally conceived by Will ‘Quantic’ Holland and Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero) the self-titled album went onto be released via Soundway Records to critical acclaim. Preserving the vibrant sound of the past and taking it to new heights with modern approaches to production, arrangement and composition, Ondatrópica topped many end of year lists in 2012.
New York based Adam Partridge, also known as Atropolis, remixes ‘El Caimán y el Gallinazo’ a track originally written by Climaco Sarmiento, the father of Ondatrópica’s legendary saxophone player Michi Sarmiento. French producer DJ iZem’s remix of ‘Tiene Sabor, Tiene Sazón’ was chosen by the band from over 50 entries to a recent remix competition.
Speaking of DJ iZem’s remix Will Holland said, “This was definitely the best and most innovative remix we heard. He went out on a good style that progresses throughout.”
Ondatrópica are currently on tour throughout Europe.
