About the Corridor Jazz Project
KCCK’s Corridor Jazz Project showcases the outstanding high school jazz programs in Eastern Iowa by providing a unique educational opportunity for high school musicians to work with a professional jazz player/educator and have a professional recording studio experience.
Each school is matched with a professional musician who performs as a guest soloist with the school’s top jazz ensemble. The band and guest artist then record the track, under the direction of professional producers. The tracks are compiled for a compilation album, available as both a download and physical CD.
An Album Release concert featuring the bands and guest artists is also held each year. It’s held on consecutive evenings in March at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids and Voxman Music Hall at the University of Iowa. The album tracks and the concert recordings air periodically on KCCK-FM, particularly during April Jazz Appreciation Month.
The program has seen exponential growth in its history, beginning with eight bands in 2008 and serving a record twenty-one groups in 2026. Often schools request to be included at the behest of their students, who lean about the program from friends. The Iowa Bandmasters Association has called The Corridor Jazz Project the “crown jewel of jazz education in Iowa.”
Album Cover Art Contest
