Riverside Theatre presents Shakespeare’s “Henry IV Part I” June 14-23 in the Iowa City’s Lower City Park. After Henry seizes the throne, England is gripped by the fear that if one king can be deposed, what’s to keep it from happening again? And again? Especially since Henry’s heir, Prince Hal, prefers pub crawls with Sir John Falstaff to affairs of state.
Falstaff, one of Shakespeare’s most famous characters is played by Cedar Rapids native Elliott Bales, who otherwise works as an actor in Washington D.C. Director Adam Knight has twisted the original play by casting a woman, Katie Hahn, as Prince Hal, and setting the play in the World War I era.
