Hear the songs and stories of Bobby Timmons’s “Watermelon Man,” the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s “Take Five,” George Shearing & the Blue Stars with “Lullaby of Birdland,” Count Basie’s “April In Paris,” and George Benson’s classic, “Breezin’.”

Jazz Corner of the World with Host Craig Kessler

Mondays at 6:00 PM

Pacific Jazz 1962 & 1963

The end of the 1950s signaled the quick fade of West Coast jazz’s popularity. In a pre-emptive move, Pacific Jazz Records made a surprising “right turn,” and began recording artists that would later be considered purveyors of the ‘new’ genre of “soul jazz,” featuring organists, guitarists, and new styles of modern jazz. Craig spins groovy tunes from the likes of Joe Pass, Groove Holmes, Carmell Jones, Curtis Amy, and a flock of other great players.  It’s gonna be great!

The Wednesday Night Special

Wednesdays at 6:00 PM

Eric Marienthal at Kirkwood

Saxophonist Eric Marienthal’s Grammy Award-winning career includes stints with Chick Corea’s Elektric Band, the Rippingtons, and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. He’s jammed with Chuck Loeb, Jeff Lorber, and Randy Brecker. And, in 2013, KCCK’s Dennis Green hosted Marienthal as he shared the stage with the Kirkwood Jazz Ensemble and the CR Jazz Big Band.

Jazz Night in America with host Christian McBride

Thursdays at 11:00 PM

Some Great Modern Newport

Host Christian McBride takes us on a third trip to Rhode Island for more from the Newport Jazz Festival archives. This week, a few of the more recent gigs are featured. McBride hand-picked some “monster sets” from Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove, and Cecilia McLorin Salvant. He’ll even throw in a tune or two from his own appearances.
