Actor and comedian David Lee Nelson and Riverside Theatre Artistic Director Adam Knight are childhood friends who have collaborated artistically throughout their lives. But nothing they have worked on together has been more meaningful than “Stages,” a one-man show about David’s experience with colon cancer.
David used the main weapon in hid arsenal, laughter, throughout his treatment and recovery, writing a popular blog that the two men used as resource material to create the show.
Riverside is partnering with the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa, to also use the show as an awareness-raiser. Cool-rectal cancer is on the rise among young adults aged 20-40.
