Craig salutes the life and legacy of drummer, pianist, and composer Jack DeJohnette with a variety of his recordings and collaborations. We’ll hear Jack both as a leader, and as a sideman with artists including Keith Jarrett, Charles Lloyd, Betty Carter, Joe Henderson, Josef Zawinul, Sonny Rollins, and others.

Vivian Shanley at First Friday

Some college students go skiing or lounge on the beach for their holiday breaks. Bassist Vivian Shanley, instead, comes home to Iowa to play sold-out jazz gigs! Rising star Vivian and her quartet returned to the Opus Concert Café in December to close out 2025 at First Friday Jazz. Her two standing room only shows were packed with fresh arrangements and exciting originals.

Pacific Jazz of the 1960s

Craig spins a variety of selections from the 1960s at Pacific Jazz. With the abrupt ending of the “west coast” craze of the 1950s, Pacific Jazz, one of the first labels involved with the west coast phenomenon, turned to several other genres. Pacific’s Richard Bock began recording soul jazz, organists, guitarists, piano trios, blues artists, island music, and a variety of “world” musics.
