Craig presents a fine sampling of brilliantly recorded material from the 78-year-old bassist Miroslav Vitous’s  work on ECM. Miroslav recorded nine records for ECM between 1979 and 2011. He also worked five times as a sideman for the label, on records by Chick Corea, Terje Rypdal, and Jan Garbarek.

Iowa percussionist James Dreier brought together a host of Iowa’s best music makers to form Ritmocano, a dream project that explores the many facets of Latin jazz. Dreier and friends took the Iowa City Jazz Festival stage in 2017 for a spirited, high-energy set.

Multi-instrumentalist Sam Rivers recorded four outstanding records for Blue Note between 1964 and 1967, and appears as a sideman (also from ’64 to ’67) on other Blue Note Records with drummer Tony Williams, pianist Andrew Hill, organist Larry Young, and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson.
