Tom Paxton’s songs have embedded themselves in the Great American Songbook. His “Ramblin’ Boy” and “Bottle of Wine,” are just two that are frequently covered by jazz artists.

We’ll hear key selections from his numerous recording sessions as a leader (mostly for Riverside Records), as well as some sideman sessions for a variety of jazz giants like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, J.J.Johnson, Milt Jackson, and many others. Tune in to experience the greatness of his sax work, his composing, and his arranging.

Joshua Redman’s “Still Dreaming” at ICJF 2018
KCCK’s Wednesday Night Special begins its celebration of Black History Month with an amazing live set from trumpeter Joshua Redman. He returned to Iowa with his latest project, “Still Dreaming.” While inspired by Joshua’s father Dewey Redman’s band, Old and New Dreams, “Still Dreaming” showcases the talents of Redman, Ron Miles on cornet, bassist Scott Colley, and drummer Brian Blades and some truly fresh, groundbreaking new music. It was the perfect coda to the 2018 Iowa City Jazz Festival.

Host Christian McBride spotlights tabla master Zakir Hussain and bass legend Dave Holland. Their recently-released debut CD, Good Hope, and their current tour of Europe, is garnering high praise.
